Although his arrival to the Spanish Liga Primera was overshadowed by the hype surrounding Real Madrid`s signing of David Beckham, there is no doubt that from the footballing point of view Barca got the better deal.

The England captain may have been followed by a media circus wherever he went, but it was the 2002 World Cup Winner who provided the real entertainment.

Fans across the continent were left open-mouthed by his dazzling repertoire of skills -- quick-fire step-overs, gravity-defying ball-juggling, mesmerising shimmies, shoulder-flicks, bicycle-kicks and a host of others tricks -- all accompanied by a smile.

But Ronaldinho was not just the best player of the 03/04 season in terms of individual skills, his presence also helped revitalise a Barcelona side whose morale was at rock-bottom after four trophyless seasons.

His second season with Barcelona helped him see them on top of the league by 10 points over Real Madrid and even defeated them at home 3-0. Barcelona were touted to being the best team in Europe, a title that came to that team after a very long time.

In December 2004, Ronaldinho was runners up for the European Player of the Year award, but did win the FIFA World Player of the Year.

--------------------------

For many who do not know the story of why Ronaldinho did not join Manchester United during the bidding wars between them and Barcelona to PSG, Manchester United had agreed on a price with the PSG chairman, Francis Graille, for a price of £30m.

When Francis Graille received the fax for the confirmation from Manchester United, he saw that the price was deducted by 2 million pounds, down to £28m. Francis Graille rejected Manchester United's bid due to ethics and took upon's Barcelona's offer of £27m, and the rest was history.
