In January 2005, Jean Carlos Chera made headlines around the world at age 9. A video was released by his youth club, Associacao Desportiva Atletica, showing off his skills from age 6. He regularly plays against players older than him, and brought about the interest from numerous European clubs, including FC Porto and Manchester United.

A few months later, it was announced that Brazilian club, Santos would be training Jean Carlos Chera, for an undisclosed sum, and had edged out it's European competition.
